Apollo Coders

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Ted Patrick has created ApolloCoders, a new mailing list on yahoo for Adobe Apollo applications.

Although this may seem somewhat premature at the moment, it is definitely a step in the right direction for developers to begin sharing preliminary information surrounding Apollo.

In case you are not familiar with Apollo (which is still just a codename at this point), Apollo is Adobe’s new cross-operating system runtime which will allow developers to leverage existing development skill sets such as Flex, Flash, HTML, JavaScript and AJAX in order to build and deploy Rich Internet Applications to the desktop.

Apollo allows traditional web application developers who are comfortable with the technologies that they use on a day to day basis to develop desktop applications without the need to learn traditional CS desktop development languages such as C, C++, Objective C and so forth. Developers can quickly build a rich desktop application in ActionScript, HTML or both.

Apollo creates so many new possibilities which build on the Flash Platform including: File I/O, Online / Offline, Windowing, Clipboard, System Drag and Drop, Full Network API support and Local Storage / Settings as well as numerous additional features which will be added as the product develops.
Be sure to sign up for ApolloCoders so as to keep updated with the latest developments of Apollo 1.0 which is due to ship later this year.
